Law exemption for CAP 1

I'm a fourth year BBS student and have signed a contract for a Big 4 firm starting September 2011; I'm thinking of applying for the Masters of Accounting in UCD.

I'm wondering whether I would need to sit the Law exam before I would be eligible for the course. I got a D1 in one law subject which was my minor. Does that qualify as a good enough grade to get the exemption.

I was just wondering did anybody else do this masters or a different one, and did they do the Law exam in the May sitting or August sitting before entering the course?

Is there time to do the Law exam in May or does it coincide with final year college exams?

    Thanks.

I did CAP1 last year. Before that I had done a 4 year law degree, with a good honours result in LLB. I was refused an exemption for CAP1 law. I had friends who did one course (2 semesters of contract law) as part of their business degrees in the same university who did get exempted.

The day the Institute starts making any f*cking sense at all hell will freeze over. Didn't mean to put a dampener on you, but seriously it's anybody's guess as far as I'm concerned.

From my understanding of the system, it all depends on whether the administrators of the course you were enrolled upon have registered with the ICAI or whatnot.

If they haven't, you won't get any exemptions. However, the rule of thumb is that you will need to have over 50% in most courses that provide exemptions. If you don't it may be worthwhile to do the course (but only if you know that it will DEFINITELY provide you with an exemption).

Yeah it's really shocking! I've lost count of the number of people in work with Finance Masters who don't have an exemption for the finance course at CAP1.
