Maths Help - Working Out Breakeven %

Okay maths was never my strong point but im struggling to get my head around something, possibly mental block due to hangover. We often hear people referring to your breakeven %

So lets take a situation where were on the river facing a big bet and we want to decide what range of hands we can profitably push, the situation could be anything else either like facing a 4bet or 3bet on the flop, anyway if you do the maths giving pot size, villains betting range, hes calling range and stack you could work out what range is porfitable to push giving all those details

The thing is thats the breakeven scenario, when we include rake then were actually losing so my question is how can we work out what range we can push and make a profit of x, id imagine if we reduce our range to take out the bottom few hands would do it, is there a formula to work out what range we can push to make a profit of x

Im expecting a really obvious answer that i was just too stupid to think of, I know that normally wed just work out whether its +EV or not but im thinking of things in another way and want to work out not just whether something is profitable but how profitable it is to push a certain range

Have a look at RJ's maths thread in the "best of threads" in the theory section. I think thats what your looking for.

If I understand your question right, I think the answer would "solve the game" as RJ would say.

The professor plotkin series on deucescracked has lots of great stuff on 3bets 4bets and 5bet shoving, worth a watch.

It's pretty simple, just do the math for the pot size including any rake taken out. Most site should have similar rake structure, but check each one
