I might be doing a tangle with a mate of mine for his B4 blitzen auto saloon. The problem is that it has an issue with the gearbox.

When you start of from neutral, drive doesn't engage. You have to give it a bit of a rev maybe a couple of times and after a few moments it engages. It then drives as normal. However, if you stop for any longer than a couple of minutes, you have to go through the rev-up process again.

Apparently it's a known fault with them. My mate spoke to a transmission specialist in Dublin who was certain he knew what it was and it would cost aboout €1,500 to rectify. He reckons it's something to do with leaky seals in the box or torque converter or something of that nature.

Can anyone enlighten me any further??

    Why not?

Factor in the replacement box & fitting cost into the purchase price?

If the problem was a known issue, I would look for an example that had had it fixed already. If not, I'd walk. I'm done buying anything that needs major work.

@cadaliac Harsh for who, the seller?

Might be a good time to consider a manual conversion.

Not what i meant at all. If there is a known fix, I would be of the same sentiments as your statement above - and look for a remiedied example. Or, indeed factor in the repair cost to the price of the car. The fact that it is a well known issue, also means that there is a recomended fix - not the end of the world for the box and certainly not a deal breaker if the car was at the right price.
I just wouldn't be so quick to walk away, thats all.
