Credit Card Payment

WE are a small engineering supply company.
Some of our customers have asked that we take credit cards.
The problem is that it is too expensive to set up a system as there would not enought turnover from the cards.
Most of our customers have accounts.
Is there a croup or co op type set up of other companies in the same boat where we can process the credit card payments similar to taking a booking over the phone?
    Any help appreciated.
    Connel

    Hi connel42,

If you just want to take credit card bookings over the phone, then best thing to do is to get a merchant account from your bank (they will charge you a % per transaction) and then get an account with Realex Payments and use their MOTO (Mail Order/Telephone Order) internet system. I think they charge about 30 euro per month.

Oh, and if you are taking large amounts, try to persuade your customers to give you laser instead as it is a fixed cent charge per transaction.

PM me if you need any more info.

    Hi Connel,

I am not aware of any type of group or co-op setup for accepting online payments. Most organisations see it as a cost of doing business and factor it into their margins.

Based on your post I expect it is the minimum monthly charges that you wish to avoid if you are only processing a very small number of transactions. With the setup mentioned by arctictree you would be paying approximately 60euro per month between merchant account and payment service provider charges.

I did a blog post today about Feepay, an Irish company who provide an online payments collection service. This might be the type of thing that would suit you as they have no monthly fee's, can accept laser cards and are cheaper than PayPal. They do not do payment over the phone but they have an email/invoicing thing that might suit your needs.

    Hope this helps.
    Dave

    Hi Connel,

I agree with both responses but in my recent search for one myself I found that Realex Payments are very reliable. They are also an Irish based company somewhere in Dublin with offices in more than five countries I think. Google their name if you like to know more.

    Best of Luck!

I wonder if you could use yahoo shopping cart or google checkout for what you are looking to do. It's worth checking out.

Google Checkout is not available in Ireland. I am not familiar with Yahoo Shopping cart but I took at the site and it appears to be for US businesses only. Do you know anyone using Yahoo Shopping cart in Ireland?

I found the same problem when I started up now use Paypal for amounts under € 1,500 I charge 5% extra to cover the Paypal fees over € 1,500.00 no charge. Don't know anything about Feepay must look at them (thanks Dave). Realex for the size of the average transaction I was doing I found expensive (100 - 200, carpet cleaning isnt huge prices) € 30.00 per month.

I'm also looking for something like this, I need to be able to take Laser/Credit Card from Cilents at their premises, so I'm looking at a portable solution.
Most clients probably won't pay this way but I want to be able to offer it and as it would definately be handier if I can take payments straight away so I might not have to follow them up later.

My Bank has suggested Elavon ,
Has anyone any experience with them??

I would second this, we have used paypal for a while now and I find them excellent, the only major gripe is that they do not accept laser but in this day and age a lot of people have laser and visa.

We have rectified it with a merchant account with AIB though so if you want to go for laser then you will need a merchant account with a bank you can then get a virtual terminal which essentially is a app on the computer that will allow you to process payments from your customers.
