A friend asked me recently about the possibility of a standalone radio receiver for DVB-T stations. Does such a thing exist?

I don't believe so - the 'V' in DVB-T stands for video. If you want digital radio in a standalone receiver you need to buy a DAB radio but currently all you'll get is a bundle of RTE stations. For the widest choice (but not the best quality) you could consider a Wi-Fi radio to pickup radio from the Internet through a wireless broadband modem.

I thought as much, I've already suggested the wifi solution to him.

    It doesn't exist. Yet.

There is a market for a DVB-T/DVB-S radio to be made but it'd need a relatively complicated interface to allow for tuning.
