Also, ironic RTE airing this programme while they still have the angelus on before the 6.01PM news?

No Irony there me oul flower the angelus was changed to reflect on "Reflection" rather than "Church" if you want an example of "Irony" just look at the amount of people that rip'd the death of the moderator recently that have no interest in the church.

RIP is far from a religious statement : It's simply a tribute.

    Is that your opinion?

Becuase the general opinion is that its a referece of "Prayer" that a "Soul" will rest in peace till "Judgement day". All words that generally dont apear in the atheism or boards general population;)

Again your getting confusing what that got to do with anything? I pointed out to the poster that the Irony was not the angleas its now "Reflective" I then said the Irony was people posting RIP you corrected me on RIP. I pointed out to you what the religious aspect of RIP is and you ask the above?

    Cen faith?

What is difficult to understand here? Areligious can and will use ostensibly religious wordings or imagery for their intended use without it automatically meaning they're subscribing to the religion from which the practise issued?
As in, one can say RIP without meaning that one thinks the deceased will rest in the eternal blissful sleep of Jehovahs presence or say "jesus mary and joeseph" without meaning they're literally praying for the aforementioneds intercession on their behalf.

Jesus fucking Christ, some people, I swear.

See what I did there? :pac:

I dont agree with you. Saying RIP to anyone implies a religious aspect. To not understand the religious aspect is an insult to someone that is not religious. To say it and not be religious is hypocritical as you could not possibly mean it. Do you understand what you are actually saying! I take it you often compliment women on there looks when in the back of your mind you think they are ugly bitches? Same result! Different method!

You catch my drift! I just see you digging a deeper hole.

I will refere to what I orig said. There is nothing Ironic about the Angelas as it is reflective. The strangest irony on boards is the smount of people RIPing the recent death of the moderator considering they in general claim to be athiest....

I find it amazing the no of different people that have replied trying to defend the fact that a religious aspect is being by a non religious person.
As a devot non muslim I often walk around saying praise allah!!! Or allah will take care of him!

Ever hear of culture habits?[Yes fellow pedantics that's not the correct term, please help me out and tell me what it is:)]

I say "God" when I'm amazed or bewildered.
I say "Jesus" when I'm annoyed or astonished.
I oh "God", when something goes wrong.
I say "Rest in Peace" as a mark of respect for someone.

There are loads of phrases that we I got from my culture where what I mean is understood by religious and non religious alike.

Also, if we want to dive into the extreme, by your principle an Atheist who's studying literature should never read or study a bit of the bible.
    See how absurd that sounds?

    I still taking rubbish

The first 3 you say.. as in you say "God" "Jesus" but Rest in peace you are actually saying to someone. If you cant understand that your not grasping the difference between what you think and what you say!

what ever way you look at it and you can keep digging an athiest saing RIP is hypocritical to both themselves and the person they are saying it to.

Are you a theist? Is it not a bit hypocritical of you to be posting in this forum?

    Fine,

    By your logic:

An atheist studying literature cannot read the bible.
An atheist cannot attend religious services.
An atheist cannot use any phrases involving the word 'Good'
as the old english term was God*.
    etc

Newflash Buddy! I do all three.:D

*Ok technically the long O God.:p

Hypocritical? Get a life sir. I corrected the irony of being critical of the angelas which is now reflective and not religious. You know the usual religious bashing tool the angelas is and pointed out that its more Ironic the amount of people that RIP and you ask of my belief and rights.

You need to grow up a little than you can start answering real questions.

Look at the amount of diffent posters that have commented on one post. I find it amazing that not one of you have actually answered directly but rather pussy footed around to explain a poor point. Surly many comments that would evoke the emotion

    Jesus mary and joseph!

I would ask you refere back to your post no 13 and advise you that if you reference it against the above you are being as ironic as anyone else...

RIP is a religious not, it has religious sentiment and you say it to many religions you would be infact insulting. I dont gather you have studied that in the litrature you read? Just read Buddism and you might understand why rest in peace is an insult.

    ^^Think you missed that.

    There is a saying [paraphrased]:
"The word does not matter as long as the concept meant is understood."
I'll say RIP everytime; because to me it's not religious!:p

I agree its pointless. But you have to admit it start getting a bit pointless from the time that the angelas was slagged off. This is when i realised it was all a joke...

The angelus wasn't slagged off, someone just pointed out the irony of Primetime having a topic such as this when RTE show the angelus every day. Which is a perfectly valid statement.

That's what you started throwing toys out of the pram.
