    Hello all,

Heading to Amsterdam soon big group of us going, how much money do you reckon one would need for a 4 day trip? Was thinking about 400 myself (spending money, hostel etc is already paid for). Keeping in mind its a big group of lads going so we aint going to be fine dinning every night, will be more or likely Micky Ds for breakfast, lunch and dinner! Also anyone have any tips while over there? I hear its a fairly expensive place what are prices or drink and the like?

    Thanks in advance

Drink prices have a lot of variance from pub to pub. You know the way in Dublin people say 'why pay €5.50 a pint there when its €5.20 across the road'?
In Amsterdam it can be €2 in one bar, €6.50 in the next bar.
But in general everything is marginally cheaper than in Dublin or Ireland, maybe around 20% cheaper.

The place can still eat the money if you are planning on spending a lot on drugs or the other unmentionable though.

Mods, not sure if we can discuss drugs, apols if not.
Joints are about €4/€5 each prerolled in a coffee shop, various brands (its like a menu in burger king !) If you are not a regular user, then one will have you crawling on the ground.

Tips - don't use taxis too much, they are more expensive than Ireland to start with, and they have a complicated metre system which means that the unsuspecting tourist pays even more because he doesn't know the right thing to ask for etc etc.
Theres a perfectly good tram system, the train from airport to centre is only €4, and if you are staying in a central hostel then everything is within walking distance.
Don't do a canal boat trip, its beyond boring.

Enjoy, its a fantastic city for a lads weekend.

P.S. Watch out for the bicycles, you'll think you are on the pavement but you are actually standing in the bikelane.

Suppose it depends on how many times you go for whatever most other visitors go for when they visit Amsterdam.

Cheers thanks for the info, ya the main reason for the tip is to visit the coffee shops so that's were most of the money will be going. I hear its about 12 euro a gram so fairly happy out with that!

Yeah don't bother with the pre-rolled spliffs if you can roll. I've always just bought a couple of different strains at the start and they've lasted me the whole trip. The weed is so strong that you might find yourself on day 3/4 only smoking a bit so that you're not monged for half the day.
