    Hi
Im just looking for some information regarding airsoft rifle laws,
My local Game shop has asked me to dress up in all of my gear for there midnight opening for Modern Warfare 2
So I was wanting to know is it ok to have my rifle on display in a shop?
im not bringing any Bbs or the battery or even point it at any one just have it straped to my back.
So if this is a bad idea let me know I dont want to be braking any laws or upsetting anybody by doing this.
    Thanks:)

Brandishing an RIF in public is illegal, so no, don't do it.

Providing you can make it immediately obvious that the gun you are carrying isn't real then you should have no problems at all. The best thing to do is ring the local cop shop and let them know beforehand and see what they have to say too.

put a orange tip on the barrel of the gun
    and take the mag out

meh, putting the orange tip on will take away from the whole atmosphere they are trying to creat in the shop i would say,
just see what the guards say

Yup I'd say ring the local guards, as it is private property so it should be aloud, but then again it is open to the public. So I really don't know. Ask Fayer, he'd know. (And if you do get the go ahead, whatever you do don't set out onto the street with it).

Edit: In my opinion I would not do it.

Hmmm...are you being HIRED or just showing up? If you're being hired, then its a different story, and on to premisis insurance etc. Many events do many things that violate certain aspects of law, but because people were made aware, things were alright. Example; hired by Eircom to promote the brand, dressed in camo, with balaclavas in a train station. Illegal to wear full face coverage in a train station. No problems/trouble because it was on someone elses ass, covered by insurance and run past police.

In other words; if you were just asked to show up as a friend, then I sincerely recommend against it. If you're being hired to launch the game, then have it run past the garda, and make sure it's obvious that you're part of the launch.

There were folks wandering about in costume with airsoft guns at a recent gaming convention in a hotel convention centre in Ballsbridge. They were carried in discretely of course, and weren't allowed have batteries or gas or ammo, and the management of the hotel, the con organisers and the Gardaí were made aware. It was no trouble at all (and the Gardaí didn't have any problem with the idea). I'd say that's where you want to check.

If I were you I wouldn't do it. Is all it takes is one person to lodge a complaint and you are in the S**1T. Some busy body passing by who neither cares about airsoft or MW2 could easily press charges, stating that they feared for their lives or some crap like that. You could get permission from the garda but the law is the law no matter what the garda say.

If someone decides to press charges then they have every right to do so.

BTW, I'm not giving out to you, I think its a cool idea but I still wouldn't do it.

If you are part of the official launch, the organisers need to do the legwork on this. They should let the Gardai know in advance. They should get whatever permissions are required. There will more than likely be a Garda presence at the game launch, if it as big as people are saying (I am not gamer), so any complaints or fears can be alleviated on the spot.

It would be no different that the military shows that take place. There are people walking around with replicas on display because they are part of the event. There should not be an issue with it once you stay withing the confines of the game shop.

Do your homework on it first, I have been known to be wrong on occasion :D
