since July. Am I meant to be doing anything (other than looking for work) like signing on each month or harassing them to pull their finger out?

I have applied for JB on the 21st of Oct and got the decision on the 30th of Oct, so obviously there must be smth wrong with your claim

It's possible your claim has been mislaid .....but you should be keeping on top of this weekly with phonecalls to your social welfare office.

Ring them first thing on Monday to find out what the delay is.

If the delay continues, go to your local health officer (HSE) and explain you are suffering a delay. They will give you a temporary hand-out until the claim is processed, however, you may have some work on your hands explaining why you left it so long without questioning.

Remember, signing on means keeping up with your PRSI contributions as well as getting the cash benefit. A break in your PRSI contribs. is not good and you may not get credit for these weeks.

    Good luck.

Not necessarily. Have a look at the thread at the top of this forum regarding the length of time its taking to process claims around the country.

As for the OP, every office can be different. Most offices don't ask you to sign when waiting for your claim to be processed. However if you are in doubt you are best to ask at your office about this.
I see you are in Galway - the Galway city office is one of the busiest in the country at the moment as far as I know.

Your claim will be paid from the date in July you applied and you will get credit from then.
