    Hi,

I am currently in the UK.

    I am having a website developed…

Can all people in Ireland help me out by going to:

    http://www.devmet.com/demo/grand_paintings/

And let me know what country appears in the drop down box?

Technically the country should be automatically selected to the country you are in.

Unfortunately I can’t quickly pop back to Ireland to test it.

If you’re in Ireland can you go on the above link and let me know what country is displayed?

    Really would appreciate it.

    Ashley

You should never use IP address geotracking for location determination.
Let people put whatever county they want.

Just because you "can" do it doesn't mean you should.

People may be abroad, going through a proxy, TOR network, internet cafe etc. etc.

    Thanks for getting back.

The user can select their country if the IP recognition is incorrect. (Over rule the default IP recognition)

    Thanks again.

I agree , but it's fine to use it as a default.

I don't see at as an issue as long as they're not forced to select it.

For the vast majority of people it will just save them an extra step.

    Ireland for me too...

No harm in this at all. It's easy to change but saves most people from having to select it in the first place. I definitely appreciate it when putting in my details. IMO every site should use it.

At home it shows up as Ireland for me but in work it defaults to United States. I'm working in Dublin but for a Large multinational.. so prob makes sense..
