Adjust training plan...

    Hi all,

I'm running the Barcelona marathon in March and I want to use the P&D 55 mile/18 week training plan. The problem is I am away on holidays this coming week and won't get a chance to do any running so that leaves 16 weeks from when I'm back till the marathon.

How to I adjust the 18 week plan? Which weeks do I cut out? Do I just cut out the first two weeks or drop the two recovery weeks?

    Any advice would be appreciated!

    Can't you run on holidays?

No Excuse, for me exercising is my way to relax. When on holidays I just get up earlier and get a morning run or when my wife is getting ready to go out I get a run in before I take a shower. it is only an hour or so a day.

You've got bigger problems than 2 missed weeks!!! OK, joking aside, I would jump into Wk 3, assuming you have a decent base already. Although I would sneak out and go for some early morning runs if at all possible on hols.....

Sneek your gear into your case, and just get up early (very) early the first morning, and get a run it. That's what I did. Hubby wasn't too impressed at first, but as he saw it didn't impact on our holiday. I would have been tetchy not doing anything for two weeks, and hey I'm just a beginner!

Sorry, my reply is of no help :o

I've ran on every holiday I've gone on with the wife (bar honneymoon, not going running in the Serengetti). Up early, run around the town/city/area, report back with a list of nice places to go to see/shop/eat. Beats any travel guide.

+1. Excellent suggestion.Think of it as a scouting mission ! I ran and raced on my honeymoon. She wasn't over the moon but realises how much of an a$$hole I am when I don't run.

Women take about 2hrs to get ready for going out men take 10 mins that leaved 1:50 for running......HTFU

Have to agree with Tunney here, to me now running is apart of my life and no one is telling me when I can or can't run, I may have to be a bit more considerate around what time of day I run so as not to be missing out on family quality time. It actually annoys me when my wife tries to tell me I'm not running today, I still go unless she's dying or sth.

Like this idea. Sure she wont mind too much if i sneak in a few early morning runs... just to scout out the city of course...

He was in the Serengti, it'd want to be one hell of a long run to bump into any tigers ;)

Yeah good suggestion from tunney, let the girlfriend have a extra hour in bed and get yourself out early, especially if you're going somewhere hot, for scout round.

Maybe even hand her a cup of tea in bed as you head out the door...
