What are they going on strike for?

Also where's the option for "study because exams are coming up.... and then maybe eat something, study some more and then play some Xbox"

Savings simply have to come from somewhere, public sector workers get paid a lot more than private sector workers and I dont see why they cant take a 6.5% pay cut

No idea. Have heard nothing by text or email yet so I'm not sure. Might send Luke an email and ask him what the story is. I'll report my findings out here.

I'd rather study at home. It'll save me the two hour commute.

DKIT has changed since I was there.....all this talk of studying is disheartening. Do the Muirhevna/Malt House/Moe's/The Jockey.etc etc not exist anymore? :D

The strikes going ahead according to the main man Dennis cummins, was email sent today telling about it.
    Dear Student,

The Institute has been advised by some of its Trades Unions of their
intention to take part in a National Day of industrial action on next
Tuesday 24th November. The strike is part of a National Action by Public
Sector Workers and is not part of any dispute between the Institute and
    its staff.

The Institute intends to remain open and conduct business in as far as
it possibly can on the day. This strike may yet be called off. However
if the strike goes ahead there will be significant levels of disruption
of all services in the Institute.

With regard to Lectures, Tutorials, Practicals and other
School/Departmental activities, please consult School/ Department notice
boards as appropriate, to see what, if any, activities are cancelled.

The Institute apologises for any inconvenience caused by the strike,
which is outside of its control.

    Yours sincerely,

    *Denis Cummins M.Sc.*

    *President
    Dundalk Institute of Technology,
    Dublin Road,
    Dundalk.

odd. Hes apologising on behalf of the institute. Who is the institute? The 99% of people who were on strike or the 6or so senior management

Some people were saying that students are going on strike next Thursday. I've heard this from a few people in different courses. BS if you ask me. We've no reason to strike.

Public sector workers have another strike scheduled for this thursday if there's no progress.

AFAIK it is. Think I heard something on the news last night that today is the last day they can call of the strike or something like that.
