    I'm chuffed! :)

If anyone's interested, here are the details. I took this from the back porch of my (temporary) house here in New Mexico with my trusty D90 and 18-105mm kit lens and a $25 tripod from WalMart. No filters. The storm in question went on for several hours, so I had plenty of time to try and capture the lightning. It took many, many exposures to get it. I was shooting in manual at f/11 and ISO200 for 10 seconds at a time with a remote shutter release to minimise vibrations.

The shot above didn't look quite as good out of the camera as it was much brighter, but a little help from Picasa improved it massively. I don't have your fancy photoshop or lightroom here! I also cropped it pretty severely, as most of the frame was just darkness and leaves.

I soooo wish we had a bit of weather like that on a clear night here that we all could try this - just not tonight as a few of us intrepid explorers work our way around the quays of Dublin, tripods in hand. Picture the image like in the old cartoons where the cat gets electrocuted and you only see the skeleton breaking through - could be like that. And to have it once would be plenty ;)

Well done Stephen - well captured.
