Anyone ever find bones' reaction toward social situations and her lack of understanding REALLY odd. I mean it's all fine if she was unaware of a system of superstition or something that wasn't connected to science but as an anthropologist, social interactions are somewhat key elements. For example she doesn't seem to pick up sarcasm or subtle unspoken signals. Yet i bet if someone had the audacity to say it in some technical fashion using scientific vocabulary that she'd somehow get it.

Well obviously it's played for laughs and yes it doesn't make sense at times, but it's meant to be for our amusement. What doesn't gel though is the fact that she's a world-famous author who must write characters who have emotions. How she can write when she's got such a mechanical appreciation of the world doesn't match - it's not as if the book angle adds anything to the show, other than a few throwaway scenes and one episode.

So clueless is Brennan when it comes to the way most humans interact that Boreanaz's Booth has been forced to become a sort of guide to the world outside Brennan's laboratory.
When asked if Brennan might not actually have Asperger syndrome - a condition many doctors consider a form of high-functioning autism - Deschanel nodded.
"Hart Hanson, the creator of the show, and I discuss, you know, that my character almost has Asperger syndrome, and, you know, if maybe if it was a film, that I maybe specifically would have Asperger's," she said.

That could explain some of it.

I've always enjoyed the show pretty much not questioning it but it is interesting.
