Not sure if this is in the right forum, mods please move if necessary. Just looking for advice about a top I want to alter. I'm fairly handy with a needle and thread(I've had to be because I am only 5ft tall):D. I bought a satin tunic style top reduced in a sale. It has a scoop neck and I would love to change it to a v neck. Can I just simply cut it down the front and trim the pieces and turn them back ?? I've made this sound very complicated. Maybe I should post a photo of the top ?

It would defintely help if you posted a photo of the top. You may not be able to create a v neck if it's a wide scoop neck shape as the fabric is not there to create the shape. I'd also suggest that a neck facing may be needed to prevent the raw edge from rolling towards the right side and becoming visable. Post a photo and I may be able to suggest how you can overcome this.

Also need to consider if the satin has been cut "on the bias", as this will great affect any type of alteration.

Took a scissors to it yesterday - I was going out last night and had NOTHING else to wear. I took a chance and just cut it down the middle, turned the sides back and stitched the V using the machine. Have to admit it looked fine but I will take your advice Ficoco and put some sort of facing on it. I found sewing the satin a bit of a pain. I normally just take up jeans, trousers, hems on skirts etc. I will post a before and after photos. Thanks for your help folks !
