I got an email recently offering this course at a discounted rate to Engineers Ireland members, it also offered an exemption to EI members from the business mathematics module.

I am currently unemployed, with a masters in Engineering, and would take the web learning option if I am to decide to do the course.

Has anyone here done the course, and is it beneficial for an engineers future career prospects?
Will it serve any purpose on my CV other than to show that I was not completely idle during my period of unemployment?

    Thanks for any replies.

I got an email about this weeks ago, here it is if anyone is interested:
A fundamental grounding in business and finance is essential for all engineering professionals operating in today’s challenging business environment. In response, Engineers Ireland and the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA), the world’s only international professional accounting body with a sole focus on business, have come together to offer members of Engineers Ireland a mechanism through which they can acquire a thorough grounding in business and finance.

The CIMA Certificate in Business Accounting (CBA) is now on offer to all members of Engineers Ireland. The CBA is the cornerstone of the CIMA Professional Qualification and is a recognised qualification in its own right. The syllabus is divided into five modules that are designed to provide you with a solid grounding in the different areas of accounting and how these relate practically to the business world, thereby providing an understanding of the uses of accounting information in planning, controlling and decision-making. Please visitwww.cimaglobal.com/engineersireland
to download a copy of the Engineers Ireland CBA brochure and the CIMA CBA Student Registration form.

Entry into the CIMA CBA is open to members of Engineers Ireland and all members are exempt from one of the five modules – business mathematics (C03). Members with additional qualifications may also be eligible for exemptions from other modules. The CIMA CBA offers candidates the flexibility to progress at their own pace by planning their studies around their personal circumstances. Members can commence their CBA studies at any time. All of the CBA examinations are computer based and can be taken in any order, at any time. There are 9 CIMA CBA exam centres located throughout Ireland.

Engineers Ireland has successfully negotiated a 25% discount for those of our members interested in studying for the CIMA CBA qualification. There are a number of study options available to you:

Study Option 1: Study for the CIMA CBA using CIMAstudy.com, the suite of CIMA inter-active, on-demand courses delivering comprehensive online study solutions for each of the 4 CBA subject areas - please visit http://www.cimastudy.com/
for ‘Certificate Level’ details and to view a demo model. This package includes access to the four modules on CIMAStudy.com; the student registration fee; the 1st year annual fee; the 1 exemption fee (business mathematics); and the 4 CBA examination fees. The discounted price for Study Option 1 is €695.00.

Study Option 2: Students can opt to pursue an alternative study option to CIMAstudy.com, either by attending formal tuition classes, self study at home, or via distance learning through a CIMA registered tuition provider. Under Study Option 2, students will benefit from a 25% discount on the cost of their student registration fee; their 1st year annual fee; and the 1 exemption fee (business mathematics). The discounted price for Study Option 2 is €155.00. This Study Option 2 price does not include either tuition or CBA examination fees which under this option will be payable by the student directly to the tuition provider.

There will be a series of one day revision courses delivered for each of the 4 CIMA CBA subjects. These will be held at Engineers Ireland’s HQ in Clyde Road and we will dispatch details of these to all of our CIMA registered CBA students in due course.

If you require further information about the CIMA CBA or the alternative study options please contact Ms. Virginie Ripoll at CIMA Ireland, Tel. (01) 643 0400, email: dublin@cimaglobal.com Please return your completed CBA student registration form either by post to: CIMA Ireland, 45 – 47 Pembroke Road, Ballsbridge, Dublin 4 (for cheque payments) or by fax to: (01) 643 0401 (for credit/ laser card payments). Please remember to indicate on the registration form your preference for either Study Option 1 or Study Option 2. Thank you.

    Yours sincerely,

    Aidan O'Flaherty Training Executive Engineers Ireland 22 Clyde Road Ballsbridge Dublin 4 T: +353 (0)1 665 1348 F: +353 (0)1 665 2234 http://www.engineersireland.ie/
