    Hi,

I'm pretty much a beginner (I "played" golf before, but a few recent lesson have shwon that I was just messing around really), but I'm keen to get out to play my first proper round.

Are there any courses around Galway that offer "pay and play" that would be a good starting point for me?

    Thanks.

all courses bar galway bay are pay and play. try athenry or cregmore its quiet most mornings. Prices are around 30 euro

Creggmore is terrible condition at the moment. it doesnt handle the rain to well. Any of the clubs worth thier salt should be offering decent rates for Nov. I heard Ballyconneally was charging 35 euro for saturdays during nov. Athenry charging bout 20

I would imagine Glenlo would be very wet at the moment as it gets boggy quickly. Mind you I doubt if there are many courses that are handling the last few days rain too well

Was out on Monday & it was fine. 2nd hole was wet as was the 6th. The rest were fine. It has rained alot since then though...

What are the greens like up there at the moment? That was one of the reasons I left there.

I played Glenlo in the past couple of weeks - its horrendous. Every time I play it, I wonder why.
Greens and fairways are always in poor condition, and its very wet, its pretty much built on a marsh.
The fairways often have long grass & the greens are soft and extremely slow.

The only reason I do so is cos its cheap & I can play a quick 9 holes for €12.

Not sure of the conditions of the other courses at the moment.

Greens are soft & slow with a lot of moss, my iron shots always plug on the green too. Everything else is grand though. All grass thats meant to be cut is. Its perfect for a knock around which is what this beginner is after. I wouldnt rate it as a course though in comparison to actual golf courses.

I know Ballinrobe isnt in Galway (its not that far away maybe 40 mins from city) but i played it last weekend and its prefect. Not wet at all. Green Fees were 30 quid but i think its cheaper during the week. Also its a very nice course
