Google the price of a pint of Guinness back then. Compare that with the current price and voilla.

Weird, my house number was 37 until a few months ago and I was born in 1983

    ..well, that's all I've got!

I can only bring you to 1988 and tell you it was worth IR£48 then. I know that because I got exactly that for my confirmation in 1983, then i closed my savings account in 1988 and got above amount. Useful info, eh!

Your gonna take a while to get the answer to that.

Get the inflation rates of the economy from 1983 to 2002 and keep adding the inflation rate to 37 pounds convert the answer to euros via xe.com. Then get the inflation rates from 2002-2009 and add as you did for 1983-2002.
Hell I'll even do it now.

To convert Irish pound to Euro - divide the Irish pound amount by 0.787564

no its just something i am researching. Someone mentioned having spent 37 pounds on a coat in 1983 and said "that was a lot of money then". I just wondered how much it would be today and what would have been the average weekly wage back then? She was a shop assistant

are you trying to make a price comparison between what something cost in 1983 versus now?

doesn't always work out given that some items have fallen in price since then [video game consoles - microwaves - VCRs etc]

2008 it would of been worth approx €104.43, 2009 due to the recession and deflation its worth €102.87 approximately.

Thats just based on monetary value.

According to my parents the avg. wage back then was around £2.50 p/h which is a pittance by todays standards.
