have you the vans handbook? It usually states max Payload

Here are all the stats for you're van. I dunno your exact model but i'm sure its there.

    Edit
Make sure to inflate your tires to the proper level Before taking on the load otherwise you could be in trouble!

you will be fine with a ton, as above inflate tyres correctly for load.

When I read this first, I was wondering did Opel Vivaro's have a Steam Engine!

It will be fine, spread the load evenly though.

    Opel Vivaro 2900 LWB
    Unleaden weight = 1,172KG
    GVW = 2,940KG

Therefore payload (and the amount of coal you can carry, minus you and anything else in the van) = 1,768KG

I'm quite sure, a Vivaro weighs more then 1.172 kg;)

Couldn't find an english version, but found this on Opels german website

    http://www.opel.de/res/download/pdf/01_specs.pdf

    max payload=max Nutzlast

1,172kg is actually for the SWB - my bad. The LWB 2900 has a published, unleaden weight of 1,160kg. That's the same as the Trafic and Primastar published weights.

Hope you aren't confusing the thousand seperator "," for a decimal point "." ;)

This is for the swb version, I'm sure the lwb weighs about 100-150kg more:

Sorry - you're right, I'm mis-reading the guide (it's still early and I've got the beginnings of a Migrane :()

Payload on the LWB is 1,161kg. GVW is 2,940kg which means unleaden weight is 1,779kg.

That sounds a bit more like it and supports your figures too.
