VW Servicing

    Hi all,

New to this so i'll get started.

Need to service my VW Bora as the service warning indicator came up

So i decided to shop around.....

Western Motors Drogheda - €180 Basic service / €290 Full Service (Inc Filters etc)

McAllisters Airside - €260 "Long Life Service"

    Bradys Castleknock - €169 Basic

Park Motors NCR - From €200 up

P and R Newry - around £110 for the basic / around £185 full service (Inc Filters etc) - They need the chassis number as the car is reg in Ireland to ensure they have the right parts.

The car has to go to VW to reset the warning light. This once cost me €20 in McAllisters just to do this - Hook up a little machine under the bonnet to reset the clock for another 12 months. Plus i want to build up my genuine service record in case i try to move the car on next year.

    Any Ideas for better value?

    Regards,

    G.

Check your manual for resetting the service indicator. It does not need to be reset by vw.
Have you considered buying the gear from vw and doing it yourself or getting your local indy to do it or is it the stamp in the book that you want for history?

buy oil, filters etc yourself, find a good local mechanic to service it.. black tape over service indicator...probably under e100 :D

What year is the Bora Funky?

Also ask somebody with VCDS to reset the service light. (I have VCDS if ya need it doing;))

Service indicator can be reset using the buttons on the dash that adjust the time and trip the millage. This and a sequence using the indicator stalk will reset your light on the dash (not sure what a Bora sequence is) but I do it all the time for my passat. (04)
As for stamping the book, any independent mechanic will do just as good a job as any main dealer. When it comes to sell the car, having a well stamped service book is crucial, especially when there are so many English imports here now with full service history records. However, the car is out of warranty, so why would you spend the extra cash on a main dealer? The buyer will also know that you are genuine when servicing the car, whether it was done by a main or an Indy.
If you can get close to 100eur with a main dealer - go for it. But if it were my money......

As said, there's no need to use a main dealer for servicing the car and a service history from an indy as opposed to a main dealer won't make any difference to the price when you come to sell. Often people would rather see an experienced mechanic as opposed to an apprentice at the main dealer working on their car. Just get the service book stamped and keep the receipt

Hi G did you get that sorted. If not try this, hold in the button on the right hand side of the clocks. Turn ignition on, release button then turn the buttton on th left hand side to the right. Switch ignition off. That should be it. :):):):)
