Hi, I need advice:confused:. Am looking to buy a laptop which has a large screen and a good keyboard for typing and word processing. I would be grateful for suggestions on makes/models from any author out there who have experience in laptop purchasing and best shop to go do. (Dell/PC World.Peats)?? Dont need anything fancy, just a usb, email and microsoft office. Am working on a budget of under €800 please. Also would prefer new or nearly new in good condition. Thanks in advance!!!

    Hey OP,

I bought my laptop specifically for fiction writing. The main factors I considered were the cost (obviously!), the size/weight of the computer, and the key size. The size/weight was an issue because I commute and would be carrying the laptop around all the time. The key size was important because there are plenty of small laptops around, but most of them have smaller than average keys as well.

The ones that made my shortlist were the Dell Mini 9, the Asus Eee PC, and the HP Mini-note.

The Mini-note won the day because it was fairly cheap, fairly small, and had keys that were about 90% the size of a regular laptop keyboard.

    Hope that helps!

The two things I took from your question was large screen and your want to type. What I can really advise about is the keyboard from two laptops.
I have a Acer Aspire, its got a 17" screen which is nice but its keyboard isn't typing friendly. The girlfriend has a Fujitsu Siemens, its only 15" but it's alot easier to type with. So there's something to think about!
So what I would advise above anything is look around, at as many laptops as you can, figure out a price and be be aware that special offers always seem to lack something, hard drive space or bad graphics etc.
You will be typing on to it alot => spend to make sure that the picture you see will be very nice even if it might be only Word all day or evening.
Well that's my bit. Hope your enjoy it and the writing.
    Jules

Thanks so much for all your replies and good advice. It was my lazy way out before doing any serious research/shopping. Yes, you are correct, light 123, I am looking for a large preferably 17inch screen but more importantly the keyboard has to be very suitable for speed typing! The search continues.
