i was watching the auction online last night and some cars went cheap and others went for alot more than they were worth. from what im hearing merlin can be hit or miss. you'd expect to see a big crowd at the one on the 14th i'd imagine.

eauctions.ie have a auto-exchange liqudation auction on this saturday in cork i think. A few decent cars at it with all relitavely low mileage.

€1 million sale of 70 odd cars, nothing particularly rare or exotic with about 1/4 of the stock being made up of Meganes and Focii and 1/2 of the stock being 2005 and older.

I doubt there'll be many bargains with that kind of valuation.

Another one in Kildare on the same day - its in the old Chapmans site. eauctions ran the Chapmans liquidation auction well and prices were keen, though not through the floor - enthusiastic bidding saw to that...

I'd say these auction houses must love all the green horns coming along bidding on these "bargins".

Full of repossesed stuff with silly reserve prices that end up going for close to retail prices.

No Reserve just meens bid till you drop to some people. I was at Kylemore last week when the on reserve stuff came through and you just could not take in what some of the sh!te was making.n ( 01 Polo 3 door, flat red, 90k, 250 bodywork, ECU light on dash....over 2 grand plus fees  ) Thing is there were some cars that were not in the no reserve section going through at money that would have been good enough value for the ordinary Joe but Joe was buying them. Instead he stood proud and un-defeated in his quest not to be out bid for a lovely 97 Escort :D

They had a 'no reserve liquidation sale' in Kylmore a few weeks back...... cars looked liked they were straight from a forecourt, I thought the prices would have went a little cheaper but definitely superb value...will defo go and have a look, hopefully I can get a bargain (my car was stolen three weeks ago). Anyone know if this sale is on in the Kylmore or Naas branch???

No reserve.......................wait whats that other print?

If you are the highest bidder at €500 then the car is yours. THATS A FVCKING RESERVE

Watch out for unwary/uninformed n00bs driving up the prices.

no, it means that even if bidding goes to only 500 and it's your bid... then you get it!

In general no reserve cars don't start at 0... they start at around 2k below market value if even.

Carman1 - declare your interest (or otherwise) in Gallagher Auctions or move along.

If your next post contains the words Gallagher or Auction, consider yourself banned.

    Edit: Nevermind, he's gone

Looks like there's another one on this Saturday in Merlin Naas. Going to head along now that I have a better understanding.

I was wondering, do auction houses take any responsibility for the accuracy of their cars' odometers?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 181 ✭✭oxegen85

if youre selling a car at these auctions and they do sell.. how much of a sellers fee do you pay. It would be a good bit yeah?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 890 ✭✭✭lifer_sean

Merlin seller's fees are 5% plus vat, but with a minimum of 250 and max of 600. There is an entry fee of 90 euro also.

Odometer readings are not warranted unless explicitly stated otherwise (which is rare).

would it be worth selling an 09 car there???

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 890 ✭✭✭lifer_sean

It all depends. I saw a 09 Avensis diesel sold there for 24,100 plus fees, maybe 6 weeks ago. It had 19k kms on it. You can buy a brand new one for 25,500 straight sale !

However last Wednesday none of the 07/08 cars seemed to be drawing any sensible bids.
