    hoping for some help

i own a 00 bmw 320d. i was looking to buy a power chip for it but none of the chips do my model. it is the 136hp version and all sites say that they are incompatable with this model.

i'm looking into remapping DIY style. i am reading up were you can purchase software off the net and also a device for reading and reprogramming the ecu. has anyone ever done this and what were there experences

    thanks

I would suggest talking to an open minded professional Remapper and get a proper map done to your requirements..

To be honest, it *could* wind up costing you a lot more than that if you make a mess of things

From what I read and the ppl Ive talked to - A remap isnt just ticking a box using some software. Its changing alot of variables in the engines computer to do things like advancing the ignition timings, increasing turbo pressures, increasing injection timings, etc. Get any of these wrong and you could do quite a bit of damage.

Most remaps, that you pay the 400quid for have been developed for a number of years. Add in a good remapper that will tweak the map and give you advise on what map you should use for your specific car - I think 400 is a decent price.

I think Upsolute and ChippedIRE are both around the EUR300 mark, IRC.

I had the same car as you, and was thinking about getting it remapped but didn't bother in the end. Anyway, there was no physical chip that was needed - it was a firmware update. I'd pay a pro to do it - check out www.autoremap.com - they can do the 320d engine for you.

I've seen it being done several times - and it is literally selecting the car you're working on from a drop down box and clicking a button. Live remapping is a different kettle of fish, but no one here does it (it costs around €2-3k)

OP - either pay someone to do it, or forget about it - I saw a so called proefessional from the UK render a car inoperable because he'd messed up the upload of the map file. Took him an hour to sort it out, and he had a vague idea what he was doing (pic below) - you'll have even less of an idea and may end up having to fork out big money for someone to undo your handywork.

I was assuming that the OP wasnt going to fork over a few grand for decent maps and was thinking of winging it himself somewhat.

The maps that are selected from the dropdown are usually some standard map with tweaks and customisations by the remapper.

Is that you in the pic kdevitt :D

    No

As I said - its a 'professional' attempting to fix a car that had been rendered inoperable.
