Dont know if thisis the correct place to post

Can someone please clear up an arguement im am having here with a work mate,

We are talking about sick leave, like being off sick for lets say 3 months, I think that you are not intitled to sick pay from you boss and that you get a sick cert from the doctor and the government pay you a percentage of your wages,
where as my work mate says you bring your cert to work every week and your employer will pay you your wage,

    any one any ideas? ? ? ?

well i missed a good 6-7 months of work last year (operation and chemo) and i had to get a sick cert from doctor each week and send it in and got a cheque in the mail each week, didnt get paid from employer.. so im guessing its the same for everywhere.

It depends on your place of work, some places pay you when you're out sick some don't.
Where I work we are entitled to get paid when we're out sick and if you're out more than 3 days you send off your social welfare form and when they send us the money we bring it into work. But some places you don't get paid for sick days so you keep the social welfare money you receive. It just depends on the process in place where you work, HR would be able to tell you

It depends on your employers sick leave policy, ours is 20 paid days in a 12 month period, after that you hand in certs and you get paid by the social welfare, its 197 a week or thereabouts, so you can tell your mate he's wrong:D

Look at your contract or agreement you signed when you started working there. If it doesn't say it in that then you're not entitled to it. By law it's at the companies discretion.

Legally your company does not have to pay you for sick days.
But some companies do pay for sick days some don't.
It depends on the company and your contract of employment
