Some A-hole broke into 6 cars on my street to steal some of the stuff inside, including my wifes car. They caught the guy the same evening. The police are telling me they picked him up, they will go to court and the court will most likely let him go again. The police described it as a 'game'. They catch him again and again..

Bastards, (the bastard that broke into all the cars, not the police who i think have a very frustrating job)

there used to be some knacker who robbed stuff from a shop i worked in. Had 30 convictions for robbing from this shop alone as well as a string of prostitution and drug offences yet was still in every week... useless justice system:mad:

What a prick. No wonder morale is crap in the cops catching scumbags like this and seeing the courts free him.
    I could tell you what I would do but I can't ;)

Surely to God, if he keeps doing it he`ll get a custodial sentence? No one can just go on breaking the law at will, and getting away with it.

To be fair, it's not the Gaurds fault. It's the over sympathetic judges that leave these clowns back on the street.

Where I work we get this gob****e in constantly shop lifting. Saw in the paper last month he had been locked up for 6 months! He was back in the shop yesterday!

Yet another reason a 3 strikes law to be brought in correctly.
Sorry to hear about your bad luck.

    Bastards,

Well, one legal option open to you is to launch a civil action against him.
    Sue him for damages.

Make up some figure say €2000, sue him for that.
If he doesn't pay, that's another offence against him.

If more people are being locked up for not paying debts than stealing, maybe that's the way to get him !

Yeah, it would cost you double that at least to pursue a civil action. Winner? Solictor.

I find it easier just not to have a car that way it never gets robbed and I never walk out my front door to find my car there gone and end up being late for work.

Now if someone broke into the LUAS and robbed it one night I'd be late for work. But that's not going to happen now..... is it?

Didn't some skangers take the Luas for a joyride before?

You could represent yourself in court, although it would be tough to avoid using lines from "A few good men" and "My Cousin Vinny".

It is just typical of the judges in this country, there is a latin saying that translates to "He who spares the guilty, threatens the innocent"
This should be stamped on every judges forehead.

Certain cases I take care of it myself... The police can't always help you. Unless you want a police state like the UK, which I certainly don't.

In other words, the scumbag is most likely a minor.

Aye. They use the sob story as a get-out-of-jail-free card.

    =-=

It'd be LoL if a few of his victims banded together, and robbed him.

Not a bad idea if you can get them on small claims (conditions here: http://tinyurl.com/yavnse9).
Conditions "b" might be applicable! :D
Pay a small nominal fee and away ya go!

Three strikes laws and "zero tolerance" don't work.

A few people on here seem to be blaming judges for letting repeat offenders off light time and time again. i heard a few stories lately of people being sent to jail for stuff like not paying their creditors and not doing one day inside because of lack of prison space. Maybe that's why the same petty criminals are robbing the same shops etc. again and again.

Also some suggesting vigilantism is total nonsense

Just look at New York, they do.

Whats happens when he doesn't pay? Who pays legal fees etc? Do you honestly think he's worried about another conviction?

Three strikes works just fine. What's better than keeping convicted repeat offenders off the streets? But the strikes are for felonies, and it looks like most crimes in Ireland wouldn't actually fit into that category.
