    I am looking to get a decent car trailer. Could anyone recommend a fabricator that makes good ones for fairly reasonable money. Or should I get one second hand one?. What can I expect to pay for a decent one?.

    No experience with trailers, but if you expanded a bit on what you intend to use the trailer for, what size you want etc., people would be better able to advise you.

    Not your ornery onager

    Friend of mine makes trailers, he will make the exact size trailer you want.

    I need a trailer for general use, 6 x 4 feet or slightly bigger.

    Plenty of liquidation auctions for plant at the moment, you might pick something up at one of those.

    ifor williams 8 x 4 second hand would cost maybe €1k. They really are the only option. they might appear expensive but you will pay more than half that for a trailer made by some guy in his shed. The problem though is that Ive never seen one of these homemade type trailers kasting more than 3 or 4 years (unless painted twice yearly and kept indoors) whereas the ifor williams seems to last forever.
    Another problem Ive seen with trailers is that wheel bearings will go and you have no idea what the axle came off and this leads to a guessing game in trying to fit a new bearing whereas again ifor williams are factory produced and these type of problems dont exist.

    An Ifor would be ideal if I could come across one within my budget (800 quid or so).

    Here is what I have come across on donedeal;

    800 quid;

    Must be some terrible trailer makers in your neck of the woods so! :D My father made our trailer around 1992, bog standard single axle 8x4 mild steel. Painted at the time, and hasn't had to go near it since. Of course a galvanised trailer is going to be a better job but home made trailers can be grand too. Depends what you want them for really

    Be careful buying homemade trailers as in the not too distant future(next couple of years) these are all going to have to be type approved and E marked anything that doesnt have these is off the road.(same thing applies to home made tow bars etc.)

    any shop or company specialising in bearings will supply any bearing you need just by measuring the inner & outer rims of the old bearing.

    Providing the bearing is intact and has'nt collapsed or seized destroying the bearing, hub and stub axle

    Second from the top comes with 6 months warranty, fully serviced and inspected, receipted etc. They're asking for €675, but I'm sure there's a little bit of wiggle room in there.

    Thats my point, you really dont know what the axle is off. We have one twin axle trailer fitted with 4 opel wheels. The rims are almost identical yet cannot be changed from front axle to rear axle. Nighmare when you try to change a puncture thinking you have the correct wheel.

    No
    the bearing need not be in tact. often had burst a broken or seized one off a stub or shaft

    does not have brakes, other than that seems to be in good nick, safety chain & detachable light lead. would be ideal for light loads
