    Hi

My girlfriend is from Finland, and after a recent visit home, she is homesick for her native tv. What I would like to know is, is is possible to get Finnish tv in Ireland? It would mean a lot to her (and brownie points for me :D) if I could find something for her.

    Thanks

    John

Tell her to get a canal+ finland subscription, a 90cm-1metre dish and suitable receiver and point it at 1west. Problem solved.

http://www.canalplus.fi/3596 To my knowledge none of the Finnish channels such as TV Finland are FTA.

Is there no free to air/ freesat channels available? Was hoping to get away without having to pay subscription ;)

    Nope. No FTA.

http://www.connova.se/TVFINLAND/Kanava/tabid/108/Default.aspx some details there on how to order.

    http://www.yle.fi/tvfinland/
http://www.connova.se/TVFINLAND/Tilaus/tabid/113/Default.aspx from what I can make out you can get a card for the Finnish terrestial channels that are rebroadcast via satellite for 170.

No hassle, be warned though you will need a dish and receiver capable of using the conax card they send, this will set you back another 200 roughly for a decent dish, cabling etc.

Also make sure the channels are being broadcast on thor 5 beam as i can recall a few months back when these channels were available, a lot of the finnish channels were only on the "Nordic" beam, so they cold not be picked up here with even a huge dish. But i think i saw some postings since on another forum that the main Finnish channels (YLE, MTV3, Nelenon) are also now dual broadcast from Thor 5 on a euro beam.

If you know someone in Finland it would be best to get the basic canal+ sub which you'll get a receiver for then. You'll need to sort out a 90cm dish this end and get it pointed at 1 west.

The Euro beams on Thor are extremely strong here (Stronger then Astra 2), so chanels available on this beam will work perfectly.

Just tried TV Finland and YLE and get a good signal on them with a 1metre dish.

I can receive canal+ nordic no problem with a 1m in Dublin. Rain doesnt seem to be a factor with the 1m so you shoud be fine. From what I heard a sub is nowhere near as expensive as a sky sub.

Yes like i said I think they are now dual transmitting on a thor 5 transponder. The main Canal+ transponders can be picked up here on a 60cm dish with no problems. Its just the nordic beams (That some of the canal+ package is on) cannot be picked up here. Will be interesting to see what happens now thor 6 is moving into the 1 west position to replace thor 3.

Canal+ main channels come in stronger than the BBC channels do from Astra 2 on my 1.1m

    Hi Fanadman,
There is another way of getting them that can't be mentioned on here.
If your still in Fanad try the computer shop on the way into Ramelton from the Letterkenny side.
I have been told this guy runs a pay server which will give you access to the Finnish channels.
