wrt54gl router + Nokia E52

I have a Linksys wrt54gl router and am thinking of buying Nokia e52 phone on prepay from whichever Irish provider is cheapest.

Would that phone work as a voip device on a wireless link to my router?

I've searched through posts here and think answer is "yes" but would welcome any comments.

I'm concerned that isp might have disabled wifi voip on the phone and I don't trust any of them for an answer!

I just set up an E52 for a pal, and used Nimbuzz as the VOIP client, as the phone, although VOIP compatible, does not have a built-in SIP client (at least the firmware on the E52 as shipped from O2 Ireland). However it does work well, although DTMF may/may not be an issue.

Tested on a WRT45GL and one of those Zxyel Prestige 600 BT DSL yokes.

I've an E71 on contract from Vodafone, and I use the built in SIP client to call via my Blueface account, works perfectly, and no problem with the SIP client being locked or disabled.

Yes, but he's on about an E52, which runs Symbian 3rd, feature pack II, which the E71 does not. There is built in SIP client on an E71, there isn't on the E52.

Yep, but he's also concerned that the carrier might be taking steps to block wifi VOIP in the firmware of their phones, which in my case with vodafone is not true.

One feature - VCC. That's why it's important to be specific about the E52.

I'm curious if your pal had other functionality problems with the E52, ie call sound quality and gps.

I know my question is not related specifically to voip, but, while voip is my primary reason for buying this phone, I'd like it to have good usability in other modes too.
