Hi, I think I am entitled to free cleanings (working 3 years, am 24) but don't know hoe to go about it- do I have to find a specific type of dentist? Do I need to pay the cost and claim it back? And if not, what details (PPS?) do I need to provide? Any recommendations donnybrook area welcome

jamie, contact dentist by phone and ask if they are in prsi dental benefit scheme (if you have treatment and then find out afterwards they are not, you will have to pay, the onus is on the patient to find out what schemes the clinic operates). You can ring dept of social welfare benefits section prior to your visit and confirm that you are qualified for dental treatment, the receptionist will also confirm this with social welfare but again the onus is on you to know your entitlements. Do not take for granted that you are qualified, to be qualified this year depends on contributions paid in 2007. If you are qualified, you are entitled to 2 scale and polishes and one check up per year, if you require further appointments for gum disease, you will have to pay privately, if you want to have a check up every 6 months, you will have to pay every second time (1 check up covered by RSI per year). You then sign a purple colored form at the clinic before/after treatment, that's it.
