Ok, our society has one final outing, its the Xmas outing, everyone gets some kind of prize, its a 4 ball team event, but..........we have been given one BIG prize for one person, (note: NTP & longest drive are already accounted for), and we are looking for ideas (be as inventive as you like) to dish out this prize !!
    So........lets ave em.......

No I'm not looking for an idea for a prize, I'm looking for an idea (on the day) to give this prize to someone.

My understanding is that you have the prize already and you're looking for what needs to be done to win it, am I correct?

If all the prizes are covered maybe at the prize giving have everyone who was there on the day name in a hat and whoever's name you pull out gets it.
    Just an idea

Thanks Codofwar, Yeah this might be our last resort if nothing more 'inventive' crops up ! Nice one Licksy, now that would be a sight !

How about longest drive with a putter off the tee but you have to swing LH if you are RH'd etc ! Give you a laugh anyway !

I assume you have used up best front nine ,back nine etc! You could also consider highest number of Pars or Birdies on the day !

Lowest aggregate score for the par 5's.
    Best front 9
    Best back 9.

    i like the putter idea

    Sorry I misunderstood the question.

I guess you have a Captain. Well get him/her to hit a 5 wood or so down one hole and then mark it. This should be done before the outing starts.

The nearest to the Captain's drive. I suggested a 5 wood as that gives everyone a chance of reaching it.

Otherwise......put anyone who hasn't won a prize this year into a hat and do a draw.

Lowest number of putts (all holes must be completed.

Did you consider giving it to your society's Golfer of the Year? You couldn't have too may complaints if you did.

Since its a big prize i think it would need to have a proper reason for winning it. Driving with putters etc are all well and good but not for the main prize imo.

    +1 on GOTY

best score on all the par threes....par 3 as it gives everyone a chance high and low

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 592 ✭✭✭gorfield

Pick a par three, using a yellow ball seperate from the team event, you pay 5e for 1 shot and nearest thew pin wins the prize!! All 5 euros going to charity. Or something along those lines....

What if 6 people have the same score?? Im not sure it works !
I like Gorfields idea, that way there will be a sure winner and something can go to charity

Definitely what I was thinking, or make it a mix of holes: two par threes, two par fours, two par fives. A bit like this Power Golf thing, or is that getting too confusing.

True, you could have 6 people on the same score, in which case names could go in a hat, or you narrow it down further by who had the best score on the last two par threes, or the last one. Alternatively, if you're having a meal afterwards and you fancy a laugh (and golf club are willing), have a putting competition in the bar for those on tied (par three) scores. I'm thinking one attempt to get nearest a ball on the other side of the room. Hopefully no one will take a driver.

/sorry if OP was a little confusing

We played Glasson recently and had a spare prize and we asked them for an unusual idea. They had a line down the middle of the 18th fairway and who ever landed nearest the line won. We called it the straightest drive. It was fair for every-one, as longest drive only gives the big hitters a chance. A 24 handicapper won, who had never won a prize in the society before.

What about giving it to the best gross score.

yeah I am aware of countbacks and how they work. I am still not sure it will work and just adds more hassle to the prize imo.
It should either be a serious prize like a Gross ( but that eliminates a lot of players off higher handicaps ) or so it should anyway ha ha or something thats a bit of fun and everyone has a very good chance !!

    Again just my opinion

That loads it in favour of low handicappers.

Im sorry if I came across short about the idea. I actually like the idea but I think something with a bit more fun that gives everyone a fair shot would be better.

I think if he goes with a serious prize like gross, fewest putts , lowest score on par 3's it becomes an advantage to the lower handicap for lots of reasons.

Thats why I said it should be either a serious prize or a bit of fun, hence why I like the charity idea. I think to be fair to everyone. again just my opinion

    pick 3 holes 1 par 3,4,&5.

1 in holes 1-6, 2nd in holes 7-12, 3rd in 13-18.....to break it up and keep guys interested

everyone has to nominate a club in their bag to play all 3 holes with from tee to green & including putting

    least number of shots win

countback last hole, last 2 holes, coin toss
