    I'm wondering if people formed a human "train", all wearing santa hats, going from Grafton Street to Henry Street on a Saturday, would we need a license to legally collect money from the general public using buckets for a charitable cause? And if so, how would we get it?

    Came up with this daft idea after reading this thread.

    Yes you need a licence - I believe you can enquire at your local garda station - if someone else says something different I am very likely wrong about this.

    Pretty sure the form of application is laid out here. It's the first form. You have to go to your local superintendent - details here.

    Don't know if the new Charity Act 2009 is affecting this but I'm sure someone else can help you there.
