    thanks lads and lassies:D

you don't need the log book to book or do the nct,you just need to confirm the registered owners details, depends when it was first registered it rolls on every 2 yrs from then

    Welcome to boards!

You'll only get an NCT until end of June 2010. If you can provide the registration AND chassis/VIN number from the vehicle the NCT will update their systems with your details and allow you book a test.

I've done this fairly recently myself, so it's first hand knowledge I'm sharing. Also first hand knowledge is that the Gardaí (especially Traffic Corps) couldn't give two figs whether you can't tax or NCT it until you get whatever bit of paper you're waiting for - Without it being 100% legit, you shouldn't be driving it and that's the way they view it and enforce it (especially these days).

In practice you'll probably be okay once you have an NCT confirmation with you in the car, but make sure you're displaying tax and insurance on the windscreen - Having it is all well and good, but you need to display it too! :o

i have heard from two people that if the car is out of nct for over a year ( mine is out since june 08) that the car when booked and passed will have an nct until june 2001 ( a year and a half). he said he did this (my friend) with a car a year ago. but im enquiring with you guys to get a proper answer. Thanks gill by the way:-)

    What year is the car?

I've driven without tax or NCT whilst waiting for a logbook - but tbh a Micra k10 (unless stock) is likely to be a cop magnet so I'd think twice.

The yoke I NCT'd had been out by 16 months.....I got an 8 month NCT on it once tested. That's about 6 months ago now, but I haven't heard of any change, nor can I understand why they'd change the policy on it....
