for the past 2 days, I rang them and they fobbed me off... it keeps dropping to GRPS even though I always get 3G or High speed, of course, they tell me I'm on the periphery region, yes, that may be, but I use it every day and I am not colour blind, I know what signal I get. The last time this happened, there was something wrong with their cells. My BIL had the same problem and at the same time with the service, so it can't be in my head..... anyone else have problems with it the last 2 days, (i'm down the sticks in kilkenny BTW). Maybe it's time to find another provider?

3G cells breath, they change size as more or less users connect. This means that if you're near the edge, your 3G signal can come and go randomly, which will drop you to GPRS when it goes.

If there's a 3G operator with a mast closer to you than Vodafone's, then it might be worth investigating, but you can have the exact same problem with any of the operators.

Yep, so then, I think it's time for a new service provider cause I need it for work, it's too unreliable now, OK, I'm off to hunt for prices and availability, cheers.

Use your mobile phone to search for networks at your location. If there are no other 3G networks found, then don't wast your time. Coverage maps, as quoted by operators, are rarely that accurate. They show best case coverage, not practical, actual or reliable coverage.

Should have updated this, after 2 weeks of banging my head on the desk, and numerous phonecalls to a very unhelpful data staff, I borrowed a modem belonging to a family member, and voila, it worked, so I went and got a new modem and SIM card, (and another 12 month contract to go with it) GRRRR.... and you know, it works again, thank well, ME, cause I helped myself.
