I noticed construction type activity at the running track beside Fairview park the last time I passed it. Any idea whats going on here? Is the track open for business or will it be?

unfortunately the cinder track is no more:(,

A full sized rugby/gaa all weather pitch is being put in, and a hurling wall.

    by this crowd http://www.thorntonsports.ie/index.html

ironically enough they were the people who built the new mondo track in

    Athlone!!

Shame they couldn't have kept a track up there as well. Nice facilities for the GAA though.

Slightly off topic but is UCD the closest track to town if one wanted to do some 1000m repeats/speedwork etc

Irishtown track is probably nearest. Crusaders Athletics Club use it.
IIRC, it costs about 5euro each time to use the track if not a member.

    It's a shame there's not more tracks
There used to be one in Marlay, would love to see it make a comeback, they've done up the par 3 golf course, so why not

Its a shame this track is gone, used to do my interval sessions there, handy cause its right beside the DART station. Was seriously underused and unmaintained though and the new facility looks good.

Can somone just not ask the council in that area to lay out accurate markers on the walking track at 100m,400m, 800m, 1000m,1200m,1600m so we can have an accurately measured distance without a track -- people could then do there intervals there -- oh thats a good idea

Good idea alright. I still do my intervals there now, i get the distances from mapmyrun and use landmarks. It feels like i'm training in a wind tunnel there sometimes though!
