recently i have started running alot more on grass because of my joints, however i feel my pace is alot slower on grass especially now cause it is so wet , what i want to know is if i am doing speed sessions on grass at alot slower pace than i would do if i were on the road will this affect my overall pace for races etc ?

    Hi Seres,

I do a lot of my running on grass and trails. It was only when I got a Garmin I realised I was quite a bit slower on grass/trails than on the road, for the same perceived effort. I don't think this should cause you serious problems once you do some of your running on the road, so you're used to the feel of tarmac. I've seen posts on here saying you need to do most of your mileage on the road if you're training for a marathon, however I reckon I did around 50% of my miles off road without serious side effects.
I did my tempo runs on the road, mostly so I could see how my shoes felt at a fast pace.

have the garmin and my pace off road is sh!t , did slow run today on grass did average of 8:45min/mile pace , was wrecked ! , i was told i should do fast sessions off the road , although i think maybe i will do tempo on rd .

The way I work it right or wrong is , if i'm doing a session thats say 1 k at 5k pace + 12 seconds, But the reps would be done on grass so i'd add 15-20 seocnds depending on the course . I think the key is the effort level in this case.
99% or my running is on grass, usually only race on roads.

Has anyone got a map of the Munich loop in the Phoenix park?
