My GWP bitch didn't eat her food tonight didn't even look at it. This is the first time she has ever done this, she normally has a good appetite and she's never not eaten her food, any ideas on what could be up with her?

Does she seem a little lifeless or dull in her eyes, not got the same pep in her step? If so she might have a slight infection. Did you try her with some other kind of food?

No she's her usual happy self, she didn't take her eyes off me from when I went into the kennel. I brought her into the house to see if she would take some grub but she didn't want it. I put some drops in her ears and rubbed them for her because she has been shaking her had. She seems happy out, but you wouldn't know with those GWPs coz they're as hard as nails.. her kennel mate the springer ate both bowls of food, the springer is in heat at the moment.

    Well deeksofdoom,
there could be several reasons for this, i will throw some possiblities at you!
    1. She may be coming into heat aswell.
    2. She may have an stomach upset- was she eating grass recently??
    3. Possible infection !!!

Try and fast her for another 24hours and see where that gets you, but keep pletnly of water with her.
It wouldnt do any harm detoxing any dog for a day every month or so, it tends to clear there system.
    Hope that helps:D

    Do nothing until tomorrow,

1 Someone might have fed her
    2 Heat cycle
    3 Infection
    4 Frightened
Check urine colour, and dung next day
(ps cucoigcrice, my dog eat's grass all day every day, she's great in the summer, lawn mowing. he he.)

What age are both bitches and are either/both neutered?

This could be significant, the GWP could be intimidated by the springer being in heat especially if the springer is lead bitch.

Until my lead bitch was neutered none of the other bitches ever came into heat. She was a very dominant bitch and all the other dogs including the males took their cue from her.

Try separating them for feeding and see does this make a difference.

Make sure however you don't leave her more than a couple of days without seeing the vet and also ensure that she is drinking.

Well I went out to the dogs tonight with just the one bowl of food, I put it in front of the GWP keeping the springer back and she tore into it, I'll keep an eye on her over the next few days to see if she relapses, thanks for all the advice.

i agree. one of the dogs around the yard at home refused to eat while the foxhounds were around cos the hounds used to tear into the food so aggressively that the terriers were blown out of it. maybe she was just being bullyed by the springer.

    just my two cents

Th springer is 2 and the GWP is 3.5 yrs old. Maybe its a heat thing.

Ye could be right she does get pushed around by the springer alright, although the springer is younger than her. But never that much that she has pushed the other one off her food.

I'll just have to keep an eye on them they seem to get on quite wel together there's never any fighting although the springer is a very competitive little bitch, even out in the field.

one thing to remember though.........a dog will not let itself starve!!! it might go off its food, even for few days but it'll eat eventually.
