Connect laptop to tv

Hi all, Not sure this is in the right forum, mod's please feel free to move this if it's not, apologies ;/ I own a Dell Vostro 1310 and need to connect it to my tv. Hi all,

Not sure this is in the right forum, mod's please feel free to move this if it's not, apologies ;/

I own a Dell Vostro 1310 and need to connect it to my tv. I have the correct cable but when I connect it nothing happens.

Thats about all Ive managed to do- bit of a idiot when it comes to this kind of technology

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Computers & Technology might get you better here than here.

Its possible you just have to change your display settings. Are you trying to use the tv as a monitor?

If you right click on your desktop, and click properties, and then in display what do you have as a monitor when the tv is connected with the cable?

I'll move this, but note that if it is a HDMI cable it will sort out sound picture, an S Video connection ( small round connection) will only show the picture, you will need another cable for the sound, this is also the case for VGA 9the 9 pin D standard old type monitor connection) and in most cases DVI. You will also need to switch the output on the notebook to send the signal to the S Video port.
