As the subject say, I'm looking for a north side mechanic to test my emissions.

Car was tested last year and failed on emissions, has been of the road up until recently and have test booked in for start of dec.

unlikely anyone will check your emissions for less than the cost of an NCT retest.

theres a small garage at the unction of Jamestown Road and Charlestown Avenue in Finglas, just at the Willows football pitch that does NCT testing for 55euro which consists of lights and emissions.

im in a good humour tonight, heres a google map link :)

Has the car fixed itself? I mean if it failed last year what have you done to fix it? will it not just fail again?

I don't think it has fixed it self.

I'll have to get it tested before nct and after I do anything to know if there's improvements

I see, what area of the northside are you? there"s a couple of garages in swords that'll check you emissions

    I'm around drumcondra/phibsboro I don't mind driving a little bit.

I'm having a problem with poor mpg that im trying to get to the bottom of, hoping this will bring emissions down as well.

Well if your there you could bring it out to first stop in finglas. It sounds to me as there is a problem with your car,What make is it? and what year? oh and what engine size?

Car runs fine bar the bad mpg and the emissions last time it was tested.

    It's a 1994 E30 touring (the old boxy one) with the engine from a E30 318iS (m42 engine).

Plan is to also fit a cat and few other bits which should also help but be good if I could avoid that.

First off I would not fit a cat just yet! The car is probably running a little rich if it is getting low mpg. I'd ask the mechanic to sort out the fueling first,A good garage can check you cat as well.

Try McNamaras in Nottingham Street(just off the North Strand).

change the O2 sensor on the exhaust:D

There's no cat fitted yet, old car/engine and all that.

I've some new Bosch plugs on order and getting a new fuel filter (recommended to get this) this week.

The cars also chipped but I know plenty others with this engine who also have it chipped and they get 30-40mpg and a little even more.

She prob is running a bit rich alright, there's a bit of petrol small from the exhaust. Which was also a reason why I wanted to get the emissions tested.

How do you go about changing the mixture, is this not controlled by the ecu?

I don't know if there's an o2 sensor on the exhaust to change?

Well the garage will do a fault code read, and the will(should) look at "live data" which is basically what all the sensors on the engine are doing, and from this can see if any one or more sensors are out side there range/spec. Hope that helps!

Yeah it does. Should I be looking at bmw specific garages then?
