Bike problem: Front chain rings not perpendicular to bottom bracket

So my bike's front chainrings doesn't make a perfect 90 degree angle with the botom bracket, when I pedal, the top chain ring moves about some 2 mm in each direction. It's not a large variation, but enough to make adjusting the front derailler really tricky, because of the movement it will easliy make a ticking noise.

Any ideas hot to fix this?

That happened to one of my bikes when some little scummer tried to pull it off the lampost it was locked to (I saw it happening). Bent the crank spider. Took it to the lbs and they were able to get it reasonably straight. If that doesn't work prob need a new crankset. Are yo sure it's not the bottom bracket though?

Thanks for the link James L,
I think the best solution for me is to replace the crank set. Which would involve removing the bb which I was trying to avoid. Oh well.

    Your in Luck, you dont.

Another bit of luck, you can buy straight chain rings;)

I reckon you should just bend the rest of your bike.

Only if it's the chainrings that are bent, which I don't know (really) without checking the BB. 4mm of play is not a big play, and it's not only with the biggest ring, it's with all of them.

There might be a slight chance it is not the BB, but I'd have to replace the rings and the spider and so it's better to replace the whole crangset to have everything fit.
