2009 Opel Gaelic team of the Year for Football:

    1. Diarmuid Murphy (Kerry)
    2. Marc Ó Sé (Kerry)
    3. Michael Shields (Cork)
    4. Tom O'Sullivan (Kerry)
    5. Tomás Ó Sé (Kerry)
    6. Graham Canty (Cork)
    7. John Miskella (Cork)
    8. Dermot Earley (Kildare)
    9. Seamus Scanlon (Kerry)
    10. Paul Galvin (Kerry)
    11. Pearse O'Neill (Cork)
    12. Paddy Kelly (Cork)
    13. Daniel Goulding (Cork)
    14. Declan O'Sullivan (Kerry)
    15. Tommy Walsh (Kerry)

Considering Kerry's inconsistent year am I the only one who finds this absolutely ridiculous?

They won the league and the AI and gave one of the best displays seen in heedquarters for years against Dublin seems fair to me ;)

While you could possibly argue that Kerry were inconsistent based on their own high standards, I still think you'd be mounting a losing argument to replace any of the Kerry players named with viable alternatives from other counties. Not a vintage year, class wise.

Imo there should be one Players presentation at the end of the year and let that be it.

Bit redicolous all the Players of the year.

The GPA awards are a joke.

What did Donal Óg do to get nominated in hurling.

O, I forgot, he's one of the heads.

You will never please everyone looking at that team think most the players deserved one being honest.

Down the years the problem with the all stars have been that players are picked on how well they did in league and on one perofrmance.

Think this team is pretty fair overall.

Kerry deserved to have so many players on that team as think there no player I can think of has played better in the positions that the Kerrymen are in this year.

Be fair think Kelly and Goulding might be bit lucky but I dont think they were any worse then 2nd best all year in there position when push comes shove on matter.

The GPA Team of the Year is voted by GPA Inter County Members on the code the play.Unlike the Gaa team of the year. So the footballers can only vote on the football team of the year and likewise for the hurlers

Believe me I am no fan of Donal Og but who would your 3 nominations have been?? Cummins, Ryan and who? He was the 3rd best keeper last year imo, although that said I actually would have refused to nominate any of the Cork players considering they didnt participate in the league

Clinton Hennessy. HAs never done wrong for Waterford since he came into the Waterford team. In saying that, he is likely to loose his place in the starting 15 next year because of the form Adrian Power showed in the club championship this year, and will also be pushed by Stephen O'Keeffe, the BAllygunner senior goal keeper and minor goalkeeper for Waterford.

Clinton had an excellent game against Tipp in the league but other than that was average at best and he's puck-outs are very suspect.

Was very impressed with O'Keeffe alright but two reasons I wouldnt like to see him brought in this year are firstly the fact there is no established FB there which would be very disrupting for an 18 year old debutant and also if i had a promising young hurler Davy would be the last guy I would want getting their hands on him despite the fact he was a very accomplished keeper himself

Did not stop Tommy Walsh getting one, and he and Eoin McGrath were getting to know each other quite well at one stage.

The G.A.A. All-Stars is not without its flaws, but at least it is fairly fair. The G.P.A. awards and all about the G.P.A. is a joke.

Sad to say, but yes. Name any player from the 30 counties and who you would replace him with on the football selection.
