And if so what will you be buying?
And what will you be getting rid of?

We're in November now... time to start thinking about this now if you do want to buy a new car next year.

Given the current economic climate I think it will be interesting to see what people may decide to do in Jan 2010
Biggest hit on new car sales yet?.... quite possibly!

    I'm in the maybe pile.

Im going to be buying a second hand car either Q4 of 09 or Q1 2010

Although im not a believer in buying a brand new car anyway-even if I had 30k to spend as i wished it wouldnt go on a new car. I guess what im saying is its not the financial situation causing me to rethink buying a new car because i wouldnt anyway, if that makes sense

Maybe going to buy a second hand car in 2010, depending on several factors.

I'd never buy new again, greatest waste of money since junk bonds :p

About 6 months ago I was this close to buying a 09 Scirocco, after a test drive and a hell of long time talking business with the dealer, they only thing that stopped me was I couldnt get rid of my 01 Celica

So with a bonus and raise coming in Decmeber I think I will be tempted back down the Scirocco road for a 2010 model, hopefully;)

I hopefully will be getting a second hand car at the start of next year. Trading up from a 1.4s civic to a Diesel.

05 or newer. Looking at something like an Accord, 320d, or a Skoda Vrs.

I only bought the civic last year to save some money. traded down from a 1.8 turbo car.

    gonna spend around 10-15K.

Hopefully I will change my car in 2010, definitely won't be buying new though!

Like a lot of people, I will be looking for a reliable, diesel, fuel efficient, low tax car! Will probably be looking for 06 - 09

I love that fact, it makes the cars I want so much cheaper :D:D

i hope to buy a second hand car if i can sell my current one (bmw 318 2002)
Im looking to get a diesel and maybe move up two or three years.

i doubt there is a market for 2010 cars, unless some kind of scrapage schemes come on the market. we'll have to wait and see.

I dont plan on buying a car next year all going well.
I'll have my 00 1.8 tddi focus 3 years in march, all going well, it will pass its nct in April and I'll hold onto it for at least another 2 years.

I never believe in buying a brand new car anyway and whenever I do buy again it will most likely be a 1.6 focus post 08 which, by the time I buy it will have come down a lot in price.

There's nothing out there that gives me all the things I want as well as my 2008 Subaru Forester 2.5XT, and they're no longer being built. I'll be keeping it until it dies.:)

Will be buying a car next year. Getting rid of 2008 Audi A5.

Im thinking 2008 bmw 335d coupe msport
2008 bmw 535d msport (although sooon to be replaced)
    2009/2010 E250 cdi
2007/8 mercedes cls320 cdi or 2006/7 S320 cdi (current model)

An odd range of cars but I like big cars although I dont need the space. I also like a sporty drive but could literally buy anything if a take a liking to it.

Had a look at a GS 450h too. Amazing car but its not really driving. It more just pushing a pedal to go without much involvement in the process.

I also had the idea of buying a cheap run around and a mad car but not going to do that this time.

In 2 or 3 years time (and when new car sales start picking up) I can see the old car tax regime cars, epsecially the bigger ones, going for peanuts. Especially '05, '06' 07 cars as the majority won't want to pay more than 2 or 3 hundred on tax a year.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,863 ✭✭✭Beta Ray Bill

    as I expected

    very few buying new
with equal amounts buying 2nd hand or not buying at all

I would like to be in the 2nd had car pile

would love an Evo VIII MR FQ340, Evo IX GT or Evo IX MR FQ-360
But I think I should probably buy a house... its a more sensible investment (I never though I'd hear myself saying that... I must be growing up at last!)

I was thinking the same thing myself! :D

Factor in the low capital cost against the higher tax and running costs and it works out the same.

Also, you get to have this expression on your face when driving it -> :D

I just bought a new one at the weekend woohoo delighted with life!!

Well new to me a '06 which I intend to keep for 3 years at which point I better be earning enough to afford a proper newbie

However I agree with one of the other posters if €30k mysteriously fell into my lap one day I doubt I'd blow it on a brand new car I'm far too sensible... it'd be a three month no expense spared holiday for me :D

Its one savage car. Had I known it was coming as soon as it was I wouldn't have bought the Golf.Savage car to go and great to handle.

Would like to buy a new or nearly new car in 2010, downsizing from a petrol 6 seater to a large diesel 5 seat estate. Unlikely though if the budget/wage cut is going to be as bad as its sounding.

There could be very big road tax hikes in the budget though! Lets be honest here, most people buying C segment cars in 2010 will only be paying €104 road tax. The government would find it very easy to hike this up a good bit, whatever about the higher bands

    This is a n00b question:
Is there much of a difference in buying a relatively new 2nd car (08\09) in Q4 2009 V Q1 2010? I have been of the (quite possibly mistaken) belief that once it becomes Jan 1 2010 all the car prices for 09 and before will drop a few grand. I just assumed it works this way because of out car reg plate system. Is this completely wrong or does it go from the month of when the car was registered or how does it work?

    :o

Looked at this when I was buying the M3... it was 115k in March! Now it's looking for 75.

No chance of buying a car in 2010. Plan on driving what I currently have for a good few years to come and it only just passed the NCT earlier today. :D
