if you know a few people that have 270 try and get a few different brands off them, three or four bullets. then see which brand your gun is grouping the best with.
once your geting a good group then you will know which brand to buy.
i dont have a 270 but i am also in the west, and i know a few that have 270 rifles.
if you want to pm me i am sure i can get you sorted.

    best of luck ,

    m

I got my 308 last week and was at the range to set up the zero. Out of the 3 brands of ammo I put though the gun the Frderal Fusion 150gr shot the best and that is the ammo I will now use for that gun.
I went and bought 10 boxes of it to keep me going.

As with every other gun I have had I get the ammo the best shoots ing the gun and stick with it.

The Fusion was shooting ragged holes to 1" groups @100m and I set the zero @175 ish to give me a Point Blank range of 3" from muzzel out to 220m

So test a few different brands of ammo first and stay with the one that shoots best in your gun.

I have tried Norma, lellier & bellot and remy accutip in .270 , with Ruger hawkeye M77. found the remys worked best .
Depends on what suits your gun

I have tried any .270 ammo I could get over the last 4 years and have settled on Federal Premium 130grn nosler balistic tip. They mushroom better than softpoints and are faster than accutips. Hornady ssts are good too but not quite as accurate in my rifle. Norma 110grn v max are great for neck shooting but suffer a bit in wind compared to 130's. I dont see any need to go above 130 grn for reds but some might disagree. One thing I would say is dont just buy the cheapest ammo you can get.. When your trying to kill an animal cleanly you want the best and most reliable.

I shoot with a guy that uses a Ruger 77 .270, he uses Hornady 130gn BTSP and finds them ideal, he tried 150g Norma but found them not as accurate.

Hi Clivej , I currently have a sako 85 .308 and I am also using the Federal Fusion 150gr. I have always found these to group great for me in the range, using this bullet for over a year now with no problems until two weeks ago, To be fair to the round it had done its job perfectly up till then so I am blaming me not the round !!

So what happened to change your view on the Fusion BUACHAIL???

Is it still happening at the range??
I need to know 'cos I'm going to buy some more soon.

they group great at the range !!
I had hit a deer 2 weeks back slightly broadside, took lots of hair and flesh and was plenty of blood but never retrieved. I am sure it was just down to missing vital organs although no question the deer died soon after. After talking with some of the guys on here they suggested maybe looking at something that hits with a bit more energy so that has put doubt in my mind as to if they are the best for the gun and are powerful enough to consistantly take down deer. Went to the range after all this and the rifle was perfect groups still excellent so only conclusion I can come up with was shot placement and that certainly isnt the bullets fault.

I have used that bullet / grain for the last year and a bit and found them great so I shouldnt really doubt them!!

I would put that down to one off missed placed shot.
It had to happen some time its the law of averages.

Be TRUE to yourself - no one can be 100% all of the time.

The 150gr bullet is carrying over 1900f/lb of energy at 200m, thats enough to put down ANY animal in this country. And it will shoot flater for you than the heavy weights. Zeroed @175m ish and you get a point blank range of 3" out to 220m

If you are still doing it at the range then the round is still good.

Take it easy on yourself and hang loose.

    cheers
    Clive J.......
