If he has owned the car for more than six months in the UK he won't be liable for VRT in Ireland AFAIK.

He will have to permanently export it out of the UK afaik for the UK authorities to be happy.

    two questions?

    1. how long has he owned the car?

    2. how long has he been based in the UK?
