Trailer looks ****e but the fact they cast Gyllanhall and Kingsley chose to do it would make me think it's still gonna be decent

you've got to be joking, its a crappy quality youtube trailer, the budget for it was huge and its Disney/Bruckheimer, cheap is the one thing it wont look, I'll wait for the HD trailer

Bearing in mind Kingsley also chose to do Thunderbirds, so unfortunately I don't think that means a lot by itself.

Yeah, because Kingsley has never been in anything bad. *Cough* And neither has Gyllenhaal. *Ahem*

Trailer looks pretty awful alright, but it has to be said, Gemma Arterton works best as a Redhead:

    Better quality: http://ie.movies.ign.com/dor/objects/664420/prince-of-persia/videos/pop_mov_trl1_110209.html;jsessionid=211m0xmql688f

It has some good things going for it:

    1. Mike Newell is an excellent director (Goblet of Fire, Charlie Wilsons War, Donnie Brasco)
    2. Latino Review raved about the script last year

More interestingly, this could be a huge turning point for the next decade of action movies. With comic book hero properties all nearly used up at this stage, this could turn video game adaptations into an untapped goldmine for Hollywood, with the budget and (hopefully) credibility they have been lacking. Halo, Bioshock, Uncharted, Dead Space and Gears of War's movie projects have all stalled/been through development hell and I genuinely think studios are hedging their bets on this one before they greenlight the potentially huge budgets those adaptations would need.

Having said that thought, still very underwhelmed by the trailer. I wanted less CGI and more parkour and practical effects

Let me don my 'annoyed gamer' cap here for a moment, and say "oh dear".

I think it is hard to decipher much from trailers, but a lot of the tone here seems pretty wrong. The best Prince of Persia games (well, the Sands of Time) are defined by their interesting but pleasingly small scale stories and kick ass platforming sections. The worst Prince of Persia games are defined by a ridiculous need to be "awesome", and an over-abundance of combat (which has always been the series' weakest element) and 'emo Prince'. This trailer suggests a lot of fighting, and that sped-up 360, CGI-laden sweeping shot of the city while the Prince stands dramatically establishes the wrong sort of tone.

However, there are some hints here that some of the tone of the game might be retained. There seemed to be quite a bit of jumping off stuff (although I hope Mike Newell reigns in the slow-mo stuff, although I guess that does fit in with the uses of the titular Sands) and the Prince has always been a wisecracking sort of fellow ("No, no. That's not what happened"). But hopefully the end product won't be trying to emulate Pirates, and instead embrace the unique characteristics of the best entries in the series. As with all game-based films, I remain deeply pessimistic.

All trailer links should come from that site. Quality is excellent.

Have to say the dialogue from that trailer looks atrocious, and you have to imagine they used the best bits for the trailer.

Will be interesting to see how badly this translates to film, I say badly because from that trailer it looks like they are merging the storylines of the entire trilogy into one. I would of actually preferred a trilogy of films to be released.

If this film has a runtime of only around 90mins I fully expect it to be a complete mess, with a hamfisted montage at the start (or within the first 20 minutes) to abbreviate the plot, a handful of token nods to the gamers in the action sequences (cheesed up of course) and a script written by someone whos never played the games*... so yeah, pretty much par for the course of game to movie conversions.

*EDIT: lol, just checked, it's actually written by the creator of the Prince of Persia game itself, Jordan Mechner. That's actually worse imo. I'd of preferred a talented writer who'd played the games get the job, rather than a talented game designer get the job who is not talented with writing screenplays.

alright, but it has to be said, Gemma Arterton works best as a Redhead:

    She has 12 fingers apparently

Does he not look more like the Will character rather than Jack Sparrow.

Games designers are not the same people as a game creator. A lot closer to creative writing and quite artistic. I also have to seriously laugh at the notion that there isn't much left in the comic book world.

Looks very, meh! If this does become popular enough then Disney will have no problem making a franchise outta it, merchandise a-plenty.

Jake just looks too.......chilled out to play an action hero, though he did beef himself up fairly well for this film.

Not my kind of movie to begin with anyways so.............

("Mysterious, adventure movies" set in around sand have never appealled to me.)

I didn't mean it like that, what I meant wasn't graphic novels etc but that in terms of internationally recognised superheroes there isn't much left to put on-screen this generation (bar perhaps Captain America and Green Lantern/Hornet which are coming and Wonder Woman and Flash) and we're already seeing reboots of films we superhero franchises we seen just a few years ago (Fantastic Four, Hulk, possible Superman in a few years). There's lots of big name videogames that haven't been turned into movies and most will require big budgets, which will require PoP to gross the kind of numbers for movie execs to spin the wheel and give them a go
