for what its worth im in the same boat but in different county... you would think that it would be easy. that clubs would be delighted to except new members and encourage people to join their sport.
Hopefully with the new laws the clubs will open up a little knowing that gun licence holders have had to jump through so many hoops:(:(

im sure if you contact the nargc http://www.nargc.ie/site.aspx they could give you some info re clubs in your area, however most clubs have waiting lists and only take members who live in the area

contact the nargc and get the name of the clubs in your area and the name of the person in charge of the club. ie the chairman or sectary, send them a letter every 6 months, telling them what shooting experience you have and what you can do to help the club(think the nargc website has a sample application letter), I contacted my local area nargc officer for years he asked me to post a cv to his house and he never bothered contacting me to say he ll put it in at the next meeting and i found out that he never mentioned it to any of the gun clubs in my area. this went on for 3 years till i got a name of a club and wrote letters directly to them after the best part of 4 years i got in this year,, not saying all nargc lads or lazy just the one i dealt with,

    never give up keep trying

Take a spin around and look for game preserved posters, they should have the clubs name on them too and work from there. pop into a farmyard and ask the farmer who you can contact in the club who has their lands posted

Ask in the local gun shop

What these people are trying to say to you is that is virtually impossible to join a gun club ,in this country you are better off trying to get into a syndicate ,offering the farmer money to let you shoot on his land, maybe then these gun clubs will be more open to new club members, after all we are trying to promote this sport not run it into the ground.!!!

There are clubs out there that refuse to take in new members however not all clubs are like this ;) Two I'm a member of are very receptive to new members :D

Well BS! I have to say that you are the exception rather than the rule, our club only allows members to join who live in this parish which is the norm from what i can see,yet in the neighbouring parish the membership is capped at 50. lads who live in the parish cant even get into it,i know because i tried myself and was told there is a 5 year waiting list ,that was 10 years ago
