Hi SomeFool, just back from 5 days in Malta. So what i know about the place regarding the Malta marathon is the following:

The road surface is not the best. It makes our road looks brilliant espically the 3rd and 4th class roads. Everyone drives v. dangerous as well so getting a chance to run on the roads unless its a race is too risky.

No problem stocking up on pasta though, loads of it around and quite cheap too for the carb loading. And quite nice.

I'm assuming Valletta is the start/finish point? Quite hilly (as is most of the country) so do some hill working. Do alot of hill work.

Don't stay in Valletta (everything closes at 5 and its dead after that), Silema or St Julian are fine and well connected by buses/ferry. Peak season for hotels is from Easter until October.

Weather should be around 20 or so, a nice Irish summer's day when we were kids. When it rains, it rains but you won't be cold.

I'll leave out the bits about €2 pint/buy 1, get 1 free offers etc. If you need any more info, PM me

Not specific race advice but take a trip to Gozo while your there (not one of the on a bus for a day style trips), much nicer than Malta and worth a look.

My parents are doing the half, didn't realise it was on the same day. Had a look at the elevation... looks like it should be a very fast course.
