    Hi,

I was wondering what the Irish equivalence is to the US EMT-B qualification.

    Thanks,
    Sean

PHECC evaluates each case individually from an applicant who has completed a course abroad.

    More info here.

    It's not clear cut seanieb.

EMT scope of practice differs depending on where in the US you are coming from. In fact it can vary county to county. There is an EMT classification here but it is of a higher scope than many US states. Conversely some US areas have EMT-B that has more scope than ours. All the detail is available on www.phecit.ie - The pre hospital emergency care council, which governs pre hospital standards here.

Well i did the EMT-B coarse over 15 years ago in the DFB and was automatically upgraded to paramedic, which includes certain cpd courses.
but that was through the DFB don't know were one would stand after completing the same coarse privately as there was some private courses done in the OBI under northeastern university Boston who had the contract at the time. hope this is if some help, but contact phecc and they will tell you.

    As above it all depends.

Best thing i have passed onto people is go look at the CPG's and the time involved in the course, that should act as a rough guide. Also have a flick throught the skill matrix

    http://www.phecit.ie/Documents/Clinical%20Practice%20Guidelines/Clinical%20Handbooks/Practitioner%20-%20Responder%20Medication%20&%20Skills%20Matrix.pdf

But you will need to get onto PHECC (FECK) to get an answer
