Take it as gospel?

Ok, long time reader, first time poster - be gentle

I am an Atheist, not a militant one it has to be said. I had this argument with someone not so long ago and i was wondering if I was right (well as right as you can be when talking about fairytales).

    OK so...
    • To fulfill the prophecy and be Christ, Jesus was to be descended from 'royal stock', ie from King David.
    • In the Gospel this lineage is shown through Joseph (Jesus' carpenter old man)
But the thing is, Joseph isn't his father, God is

    So my questions are...

Is this another instance of how the gospels are obviously 'made up'?
How do believers cope with such glaring inconsistencies?

The story of the resurrection is pretty inconsistent

edit: oops the video doesn't seem to be working. Hopefully it'll come back at some stage

Hi chakav - and welcome. :)

Don't take this the wrong way but I've closed your thread as it really doesn't belong here. I'm dubious as to how welcome it would be where it really belongs which is in Christianity, but if you PM one of their mods and they are happy to take let me know and I will move it.

Bottom line if you have a question for believers - ask there. Otherwise the question is kinda moot as non-believers explain the inconsistencies in the bible by saying it's not really true, and was just made up by a lot of different men over many years.
