Heat Pump Problem - Compressor not starting

    Hi everyone,

It's time to turn on the central heating - and I have a problem with my Heat Pump (Nordic Geothermal - Fed from Well Water).

The situation is that we tunred off the HP in the summer and have used the immersion heater for Hot Water only. There have been no other problems or issues with the CH system since then.

When starting up the HP, it starts ok and is huming along nicely, however whenever the CH system calls for Heat (i.e. when the diff cuts in), immediately the red "Trouble" lamp lights. Now the Compressor does not start at all so it is not an issue with the Compressor cutting out.

From basic troubleshooting that I can figure out, the problem may be with low refrigerant levels (there was a leak last year which required that the refrigerant be topped up), however before I go down this route does anyone else have experience of such problems?

    Thanks everyone.

Was the previous leak found and repaired or the system just "topped up"?

Sounds like low gas, are the water pumps ok? no flow faults etc?

    Thanks,

System was topped up (couldn't identify the source of the leak), as all the CH looks ok, your advice that it could be low gas looks correct.
