Just installed this and my computer seems to have taken a speed hit.

For example when using convert x to dvd I used get 180FPS conversion rate, now it's like 130-140.

    anyone have any similar problems.

upgrade to more ram it's very cheap that will sort out the speed. avg does give you a performance hit for sure it's bloatware but it is free so more memory should fix that up

i removed version 9 , and went back to previous version, working perfectly now - so many of the anti-virus softwares slow down machines - i need protection , but not at complete loss of speed .

any other recomendations for good AV software ?

i had norton but that was a hog too !!

    cheers

My system is maxxed out on RAM.

It's not "slow" or anything just noticably not as fast as its predecessor

Had to disable the link scanner.

I couldn't upload ot youtube, plus browser was crashing multiple times.

Things working a little better now.

How do you roll back to version 8.5?

Is it still avilable on the site?

I had the same problem with the avg9, so I removed and installed the AVAST, and now my pc is flying. Also I recomind the free version od Advanced SystemCare V3 http://www.iobit.com/

Hi Guys I too downloaded AVG and my laptop has slowed down, in my case when I installed it I could not find it and there was no shortcut so I ran search and run and found a huge amount of stuff there which I deleted however I am sure its not fully gone, can anyone tell me how to make sure its totally gone from my laptop.

    Thanks

    Same here.

AVG9 was causing a noticeable slowdown for me even when web browsing despite the fact that I didn't install the link scanner component.
I uninstalled AVG9 and installed Avast instead and things improved considerably. The PC performs better than when AVG 8.5 was installed IMO.

Avira personal is nice and fairly light weight. Avast is good too.

    AVG out the gap.

    Avast installed.

edit: WOW. the game I'm playing at the moment, Dragon Age: Origins runs A LOT better than before.

By the way, anyway to hide the rotating little "a" in the bottom right? It seems to spin and then stop for a while for some reason. It's bugging the shíte out of me!

    Assuming that you're using XP.
    • Right-click on the Start button.
    • Select Properties.
    • Select the "Task Bar" tab.
    • At the bottom where there's an option to "Hide inactive icons" ensure that the option is ticked and click on the "Customize" button.
    • Scroll down through the entries for the Avast entries and change the behaviour to "Always Hide".
If you're using Vista or Windows 7 I'm sure there is a similar way of hiding the icons.
